Blog entry 6

The Jester archetype embodies the fun and enjoyable part of day to day activities. Those who express the Jester finds a way to lighten up any situation or task they participate in and make it enjoyable for all those involved. For example, a manager at a fast food restaurant that has his/her staff do inventory, (a very tedious, boring and time consuming task), would play fun music, strike up interesting conversation or offer a prize for whomever finishes first. This allows those around the Jester to have a good time and momentarily forget their troubles. To a Jester, every second is not a second wasted, this the fear and main negative drawback of the Jester. The Jester seeks to have something occupy every second their day, and to that effect to make it fun. Even relaxing must be filled with laughter.

Now that's not to say that everybody that cracks a good joke every once in a while is a Jester, that person could be completely humorous 23 hours of the day until five pm where their doing stand up comedy to get by. A Jester is humorous in everything they do. Although a funny and charismatic person, the Jester has a understanding worldview and is better with people, than say a destroyer, who would get easily agitated with a person who whines as opposed to the Jester who would work an angle on making that person smile or at least giggle. A jester would be able to use humor to lighten a serious mood, dissolve a quarrel quickly and effectively or get through a stressful situation. Laughter is seen as a survival mechanism in nature so it would make sense that those who know how to have a good laugh would be better able to have a brighter out look on life. Another basic characteristic of a Jester would be the widespread appearance of them in everyday society. The comedic industry is basically a Jesters guild of sorts, her to bring humor to millions upon millions of people, just like Caregivers as nurses are here to heal and nurture.

So far this class for Eng 102 is going better than I expected. All the basic information I knew of poetry has been reinforced and supplemented with new information. I now know how to pick a poem apart and spot all the symbolism's. As for the archetypes, it is all still relatively new. I am still learning more about these archetypes between the class texts and personal research. Before this semester, I did not know there were so many different types of personality types, but after reading I am slowly coming to understand them and all their functions. I would have to say my favorite topic of the course so far is the actual archetypes. I've always been interested in psychology. I find it very intriguing that billions of people can be profiled and grouped into twelve categories so accurately. Although I haven't been on top of my work, I have enjoyed the in class discussions and the relate to the actual course work.

Blog Entry #3

Bobby Ray Simmons (B.o.B) is a North American recording artist, song writer, producer and musician. He was born on November 15, 1988 in Atlanta Georgia. Simmons has bet nominated multiple times for the BET Hip-Hop Awards, People Choice Awards and MTV's Video Music Award. At present he has only won the Teen Choice Awards for his song "Airplanes", featuring Hayley Williams of Paramore, and the Soul Train Music Award for his collaboration of the hit single "Nonthin' on You" featuring Bruno Mars. I choose write about B.o.B. because I feel his earlier work had a sound and energy that engaged his listeners and pulled them into his music. He told stories and intertwined is path to success into the fabric of his rhymes.

In B.o.B.'s song "Magic" featuring Rivers Cuomo, there are several symbols in the supernatural arena. The first major symbol appears in  lines 13-14 when Simmons dictates "That the tricks that I'll attempt will blow your mind". The next prominent symbol makes its appearance in line 32 when he states that there are no "Ghost or Poltergeist". The last major symbol comes in at the end of the song in line when Simmons invites his listner to " Take a journey into my mind".

The meaning of the first symbol could be interpreted in many different ways. First, e could assume his is a magician, and a good one at that by the emphasis he puts on the skill in which he performs. With the second symbol, Simmons insinuates that he is the real deal. "No ghost or poltergeist" could stand in for his meaning that he has nothing to hide from his audience and what you see is actually what it is. For the last symbol when he invites his audience into his mind, it shows his willingness to let others see his thoughts. He is open and he fells he has nothing to hide once more.

I believe that B.o.B is using this song as a way to let his listeners know that he doesn't deceive or use fraud. He invites us to see what fuels his creative processes, and in turn like those in a magic show, he showcases his skills and makes us believe what he is saying without tricking us. I believe this the main reason why he calls this song "Magic" as opposed to Hocus Pocus or the Great Alakazam.

Blog entry 2

I choose the song "Sweet Dreams" by Beyonce Knowles. The song touches on the base of a young woman who has strong feelings for a man feels as if she in a dream or possibly an inescapable nightmare . The feeling are so strong in this dream that she does not want to exit this dream, but remain in it forever. Throughout the song she express several ways of binding them together, such as tattooing his name on her heart, so even if she wakes up and forgets him, death would not be able to separate them. I choose this song because it realy shows the depth of true love and how it can impacts the way someone feels and thinks on even a base level such as not wanting to come out of a dream, or the drastic measure on would take to hold a person close to them forever.

Blog Entry 1

My experience reading this poem along with the class versus alone was very different. At first i did not have a clear comprehension of the poem, but after reviewing it and hearing many different opinions, I was able to better understand it. The poem isn't really happy nor is it overly dark in nature. The bottom theme does hint at a sad childhood and the only mention of a grandfather supports the thought that there are no parent.

 My original thoughts of the creature described in the first stanza, was it was some kind of secret that the subject wanted to forget. My opinion to that effect has not changed much, but the nature and purpose of the creature has. It is not a secret but a memory of sad and past times. The subject of the poem attempts to escape the memory by leaving the setting in which it occurred, but that only causes the physical manifestation of the memory to follow them. It goes as far to share a bed in the dark but hides from the light.

I feel that this poem has many different interpretations that only get more and more complex based off how the audience handles the first two stanzas. One could imagine that the creature is a hideous but loyal imaginary friend. others a mental scar or blemish that the subject wishes to rid themselves of. The in-ability to destroy this memory caused even deep problems.
